4 Critical Studies That Offer Optimism For Arthritis Sufferers

Posted by: John Alois

New research notes the effectiveness of using CBD to help treat arthritis.

What Is Arthritis?
Arthritis is inflammation in one or more of your joints, often leading to pain and stiffness for those suffering, which only tends to worsen over time. It is quite common, affecting an estimated 350 million people globally, with around 40 million sufferers in the United States alone. Arthritis is so common that research shows it is currently the leading cause of disability among American adults.
Arthritis may come in a variety of forms, the two most common of which are osteoarthritis, which is the weakening of the cartilage between joints, and rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disorder causing inflammation in joints. While there is currently no known cure for arthritis, there are a variety of treatment options to manage pain and improve the quality of life for those suffering. The most common treatments for arthritis include physical therapy and prescription medication.
While medication and therapy are effective in helping to manage inflammation and pain caused by arthritis, these prescription drugs often carry potential side effects that may dramatically impact a person's overall quality of life. For those looking for viable supplements or alternatives to prescription drugs, there is an expansive collection of anecdotal evidence and peer-reviewed research highlighting the effectiveness of using CBD therapy to help treat and manage arthritis.

What Is CBD therapy?
CBD treatment is a therapeutic health regimen utilizing various forms of CBD to treat and manage a variety of symptoms and conditions. These range from helping manage anxiety, to reducing pain and inflammation for those who have arthritis. Some of the various forms of CBD include oils, capsules, ointments, and even bath bombs. Ensure you consult with your physician to figure out the most effective treatment plan for your specific condition and symptoms.
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the second-most prevalent cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are a group of closely-related chemicals that interact with our brain's cannabinoid receptors, known as the endocannabinoid system. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the most prevalent cannabinoid and is most often associated with making users high.
Both CBD and THC bind with different receptors in our brains and produce different effects on our bodies, most notably CBD supplementation may lead to an array of positive health benefits but does not cause any high like THC. Every day there are new reports from people just like you praising the remarkable effectiveness of using CBD to help treat their arthritis.

Did CBD Work?
In addition to the aforementioned anecdotal reports, there is a growing collection of peer-reviewed scientific data highlighting the efficacy of utilizing CBD therapy to help treat arthritis and manage its symptoms. The following four studies highlight the promise and potential CBD may offer for those who are currently suffering.
One of these studies, from the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, found that CBD was shown to
effectively block the progression of arthritis in both acute and chronic cases. In addition, there were also notable clinical improvement in protecting joints against severe damage. The study is excellent supporting evidence for the anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties of CBD therapy.
A separate study by the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Calgary discovered that CBD
binds to far more receptors in our brains than previously thought. In addition to atypical receptor activity, researchers found clear evidence of the role CBD can play in joint nociception. The team concluded that CBD might play a significant role in discovering effective treatments for various inflammation-related pain, such as that caused by arthritis.
In research conducted by the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, the team observed that CBD therapy
provided significant analgesic effects for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. There was a notable improvement in subjects across all aspects tested, including pain at rest and quality of sleep. Additionally, the team found that disease activity was significantly suppressed during CBD therapy. While some slight side effects were observed, all of them were considered very mild and extremely manageable.
Finally, a study by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain found that CBD was shown to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. The team found that CBD therapy
reduced joint damage caused by arthritis primarily by strengthening cartilage. In addition, their research noted several additional positive benefits of CBD therapy, such as mitigating arthritic inflammation and degradation.

Is CBD For Me?
The use of a supervised therapeutic CBD regimen to help manage arthritis is advocated by both the
Arthritis Foundation and Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Network. Be sure to consult with your physician to see if CBD therapy is right for you. They can help you set up a CBD treatment regimen and ensure there aren't any conflicts with existing medication or treatments.
Before making any purchase, be sure to thoroughly research reputable companies that use independent third party testing on every batch produced for purity, potency, and safety. The legality of CBD can also vary significantly throughout the country, so be sure to research state and local laws and carefully weigh if CBD therapy is right for you.
